- Larry Jarrell
Inside the mind of one of our top Cartoonist in South Florida Larry Jarrell. I asked him some key questions about this creative and challenging Industry and his successful career.
1-When did you first discover your creative talents?
Oh that’s easy, I was 6 and I started drawing and creating my own characters, shortly after that I discovered comic books. J
2-Could you tell us about some of your work?
Absolutely – I have designed and created several things. Most recently has been Red Angel, a Story called 13th Street (it features a character I designed for my wife and her best friend), Concrete Dove and I have Illustrated the first Issue of Sam Savage. I also did a 5 page story for AC Comics title FemForce last April.
3-What inspires you to keep going and how do you keep yourself motivated?
Again that’s a pretty easy answer. I love t draw and entertain folks with my talent. Enjoyment comes from sharing what I can bring to life on paper and in the digital world and see the reaction of others as they look at what I have created.
4- Any influences or anyone you look up to when it comes to creating your characters?
Character designs and development – hmmm artistically I have always been influenced by three comic talents. First the incomparable Neal Adams ( he single handedly turned batman into the dark knight long before Frank Miller), Paul Smith (Marvel Comics X-men and Dr. Strange) and the sweet styling of Colleen Doran (A Distant Soil)
5-Describe yourself in 5 words.
Creative, Open-Minded, Relaxed, Confident & Determined
6-Lastly, any words of advice for aspiring Illustrators/Cartoonists or writers?
Certainly; never let anyone tell you it’s not possible. Don’t waste money on a degree that means nothing anymore artistically speaking, degree’s won’t get you a job drawing/illustrating comics being an understudy will. When you write, write about what brings you excitement and joy, so that when you are asked to write for someone else you understand what they expect to read.
7-Please tell us what are your expectations from the Comic book Red Angel?
In a nut shell, to see it turned into a feature film or perhaps a series on SyFy Channell. I think it has a tremendous amount of potential. We have a pretty solid following on Facebook and twitter. The Steampunk Genre is growing rapidly and with the Success of Movies like Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows (Robert Downey Jr. & Jude Law), SuckerPunch and its ever increasing presence at Comic Book convetions that it is the next wave of Science Fiction.
8- Where can people purchase Red Angel?
Red Angel and our full line of titles are available on our web site at:

And a few others possibly Wizard World in Austin Texas.
